Program

"The greatest sign of success for a teacher... is to be able to say: The children are now working as if I did not exist." - Maria Montessori

Core Values

GMA emphasizes development of the whole child. Through the active engagement of each child’s innate curiosity and love for learning, Montessori-trained teachers guide students through an integrated Montessori curriculum. We believe in:

  • Providing a strong, integrated academic and enrichment program

  • Creating a warm, welcoming and peaceful learning environment

  • Cultivating each child’s ability to respect themselves, others and the environment and to become peaceful, compassionate citizens

  • Recognizing each child’s individual strengths, needs and interests, providing guidance so each child experiences success and acquires skills

  • Promoting community and cultural awareness

  • Guiding our children’s desire to learn

Academics

GMA incorporates nine defined areas by focusing on their children’s interests and their developmental needs. Children are engaged in these areas with hands on activities:

Practical Life:

Encouraging children to look after themselves, their classroom and home environment independently.

Sensorial:

Developing the senses of sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell.

Language:

The language area in our classroom is an exquisite program. The exercises we offer for primary children are key to unlocking the various aspects of language that open the door for ongoing exploration.

Mathematics:

Learning mathematical concepts in a Montessori classroom begins concretely and progresses towards the abstract. Process is taught first and facts come later.

Cultural:

Introducing children to the world in which we live.

Art:

Providing open-ended art activities that help children explore and use their creativity.

Science:

Science in Montessori is known for introducing children to advanced topics in the early years, preparing them for a lifetime of discovery.

Music:

The Montessori musical program develops the children’s nonverbal effective communication, increasing their understanding of music and enhancing their ability to express themselves through music.

Character Education

Our 'Character Education' program encompasses character traits, problem solving skills, positive behavior interventions and etiquette. The character traits that we focus on during the school year are taught during specific months:

  • September - Respect

  • October - Responsibility

  • November - Cooperation

  • December - Compassion

  • January - Good Judgment

  • February - Integrity

  • March - Perseverance

  • April - Citizenship

  • May - Courage

Each trait's education is delivered through school-wide activities, literature, videos, music, interactive lessons, writing activities, and culminating activities.
